Miners Southern - Zhezkazgan mine ready for strike in case of unfulfillment of their demands
Zhezkazgan. January 31. Kazakhstan Today - Miners of Southern- Zhezkazgan mine belonging to Kazakhmys corporation are ready for a strike in case of unfulfillment of their demands, Pavel Shumkin, the analyst of the confederation of free trade unions of the Karaganda oblast informed the agency from Zhezkazgan on Wednesday. "The situation is intense. In case the demands of the miners are not fulfilled, they will go on a strike," P. Shumkin said. "The administration tried to intimidate miners by having dismissed instigators. One of them resigned on his own will - Murzakanurov, caterpillar operator." The requirements of Zhezkazgan miners - increase of wages and improvement of working conditions. Besides, the workers demand to replace the system of payment from piece-rate premium bonus to piece-rate and to pay 100 per cent of indemnifications for traumatism. The list of requirements is not yet officially approved. The miners one of these days discussed their demands with the leaders of trade unions. As it was informed earlier, on January 21, the miners informed the akimat of the city and the management of the corporation on carrying out of the strike if their requirements, consisting of 13 items, will not be fulfilled. The main demands have been - increase of wages, improvement of working conditions, 100 percent payment of sick-leaves and change of working shifts. In its turn Kazakhmys Corporation, on January 23, sent to the agency a written refutation of the facts that the miners of Zhezkazgan oblast informed the management of the corporation on the strike. Moreover, the message of the corporation states of the absence of "formal acknowledgement that miners were going to organize a strike." The akimat of Satpayeva denied the fact of receipt of the application on carrying out of strike from miners of mine №65 of Kazakhmys corporation.
